In PE lessons this week we have held a Dodgeball Competition to raise money for Amethyst's house charity, The British Heart Foundation.

We were lucky enough to have Barbara Dunn from the BHF come into school and present an assembly on the important work that the BHF do.  The children listened really well and we were very grateful for her promoting our dodgeball tournament.

The Children paid a pound to enter and were extremely excited. The competitive spirit was high and all children played their absolute best to try to win for their house.

              West End in Schools

Dance Workshop Day

The whole school was treated to a day of dance led by a trained dancer from 'West End in Schools'. Our dance teacher had worked as a professional dancer and performed in the West End in the show 'We will rock you' and on tour with the musical' Joseph'.

To begin we were shown three styles of dance. These are shown in the videos below. Can you remember the name of each dance style?

The dance teacher asked us what we had done in the morning. Our answers included eating breakfast, brushing our teeth and having a wash.  We were shown how to use mime, facial expression and exaggerated movements to perform these events.  The teacher then put these together into a sequence of movements to perform a dance of our morning.

Watch the video below to see this performance.

Each class worked in a half hour session to learn and perform a dance linked to a familiar story. What an enjoyable day we had! When the boys found out that footballers use ballet in their training to build muscle and to develop posture, strength and balance,  they were keen to have a go.

Year 3’s dance was based around the book The Iron Man
