Year 3

Welcome to Year Three!

Hello and a big warm welcome to Class 3! We are super excited to have your child in our class this year. I am Mrs Thornley, the class teacher, and I’m lucky to have our amazing Teaching Assistant, Mrs Crossland, by my side. Together, we can’t wait to create a fun and friendly learning space where everyone can shine!

This year is going to be so much fun as your child moves up from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. It’s a special time for growing and learning, and we’re excited to see your child become more confident and curious as we dive into new subjects and ideas together!

PE
On Tuesdays, children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit. They will take part in P.E. lessons led by our dedicated teacher, Mrs Boyle.

Throughout the year, children will also have some exciting outdoor opportunities to engage in;-  Forest School sessions, sports competitions, after-school clubs, and a variety of active learning experiences. We will let you know about these in advance through Class Dojo.

Homework
Each week, your child will have reading and spelling homework. Sometimes, we might send home extra tasks if we think they need a little more practice. We’d love your help with homework, as it’s really important for their learning journey. Spelling tests happen every Tuesday, so let’s make sure your child is ready!

Reading is the most important thing your child can do at home. Regular reading and sharing stories with grown-ups are proven to help children do better in school. We really appreciate your support in helping your child read lots and often, ideally for at least 10 minutes every day. Please remember to sign their reading record each day and make sure they bring their reading book and record to school every day so we can enjoy reading together!

We practice times tables every day. Children can also use TTRockstars to get faster at their times tables up to 12x12, which will help them get ready for the National Multiplication Tables Check in Year 4. Each child has their own login details to use at home.

Below, you’ll find important information for Year 3, including what we’ll be learning, what we hope your child will achieve by the end of the year, and some helpful links. We’ll also share photos of our work and special events in the Year 3 news section at the bottom of this page and in the Latest News section of the website.

If you have any questions or worries, please don’t hesitate to ask. You can find us on the playground at the end of the day, or you can call the school office to set up a time to chat.

At St Mary and St Joseph’s, our pupils are at the heart of everything we do, and our curriculum is made to fit the needs of all our children. Let’s work together to make this year a fantastic adventure!
