Year 5 had a great time recreating the phases of the Moon with Oreo biscuits.  They most enjoyed the fact that they could eat any of the biscuits that they didn’t use!

For part of their future artwork, Year 5 studied primary and secondary colours.

This term we have been learning how to print in our art and design sessions. Using what we had learnt about primary colours we used wet tissue to print on canvas. We observed how the ink ran from the tissue paper and merged with other primary colours to create secondary colours. We then went on to explore tertiary colours as these were created with the merging inks.  We used our colour wheels to select the colour palette we liked to create our planet.

When the tissue was dry we removed it from the canvas. This printing technique created colourful backgrounds for our planet designs.

Our next step was to design and make a collagraph. We collected various items and explored the effects they created when printed. We discovered which effects would create the patterns and textures we desired. We glued our chosen items onto a printing plate and printed over our tissue printed canvas.
