Searching for and planting food

As part of our topic we have been searching for food in the school garden and we found some potatoes!

We then planted some of our own food such as spring onions, radishes and herbs.

Making Lemonade

We have learnt about James Lind who was a doctor and a scientist who discovered eating food rich in Vitamin C such as oranges, lemon and limes helps ward off Scurvy. We then made some Lemonade to make sure we don't get Scurvy.

Inventing Confectionary

Year 3 have invented their own confectionary with a partner and made an advertisement for them. We had some fantastic ideas like the chocolate house, the grow back bubble gum and golden egg to name a few.

 Healthy sandwiches

We have designed and made healthy sandwiches using a variety of ingredients, they tasted delicious. Have a look.

Chocolate Workshop

David Coletta came to school to talk to us about chocolate and where it comes from.

We had a look at cocoa beans.

We had a smell of 100% pure chocolate, it smelt very chocolatey but we were not allowed to eat because it can make you ill!

In the afternoon we had a go at making our own chocolate lollies. Firstly we put tempered chocolate into piping bags and piped it onto acetate. Next we used a palette knife to spread the chocolate out into a circle. After that, we rolled in a lolly stick into the chocolate. Finally, we decorated the lollies, let them set and then put them into bags.

We had a lot of fun making them. Mrs Thomson had a very tough job to decide a winner; she thought all the smoothies tasted absolutely delicious but there could only be one winner which was the Tropical Surprise Smoothie.  If you would like to taste the winning smoothie follow the recipe below.
