Scented Garden - Summer 1

Scented Garden

We began our topic by exploring different scented plants including Lavender and Thyme. We enjoyed smelling them and observing them closely and began to sketch what we saw.

We explored around our school environment to see what plants and flowers we could find. We took pictures of what we found in the school garden and Forest School.

We became inventors last week and we invented our own plants!

We designed them, made them and created information pages about them. Take a look at some of our designs.

Our trip to Bring yer Wellies!

On Thursday 14 April, we had a day out at Bring yer Wellies. What an amazing time we had!! We had fun on 'the beach',  playing and making sandcastles and sand volcanoes. We then identified plants by smelling them - we smelled lavender, chives (which smelled just like onion!), oregano, rosemary, peppermint and spearmint. It was then our turn to pot our plants. We planted a lavender and lemon balm plant each and got to take them home!

We then were shown the wormery and learned how worms only like to eat rotten food!

After lunch, we built dens, took part in running races and built boats out of corks to race in the brook. Ms Hill's team's boat won all three races!!

We had such a lovely time - we are now ready to learn more about plants in our new topic!
