Memory Box Topic Plan - Find out what we will be learning this half term

We have been learning about Long ago in our Memory Box topic.

Down in our 4D classroom we were fascinated by our tour around 'Alice's House'. She lived over a hundred years ago. We saw different

objects than we see in our own modern homes. Look through the photographs. What can your child see?  Look out for a range, a mangle, the governess, a copper kettle, oil lamps and candles.  Mrs Ramsden brought in some very old metal cars and books from 120 years ago which were very fragile.

Alice's House

Year 1 visited St Joseph's Church to learn more about 'Baptism'. Father Ged asked them lots of tricky questions and wow! Year One gave some fantastic answers. We were very proud of you!

Father Ged baptised our doll 'Anna Daisy'. We looked round the beautiful church and saw  a baptism candle, a statue of Mary our Mother, the organ, and a statue of St Thomas.

Look at these photographs. Can your child tell you which photograph is of each thing?

Year 1’s visit to Blackburn Museum

On Thursday 15 January, we got wrapped up in our hats, scarves, gloves and winter coats, ready for our walk down to Blackburn Museum. It was freezing!

When we arrived at the museum, Steve was there to greet us. First of all, he showed us a glass box full of old toys like wooden blocks, marbles, a strange-looking wooden doll and a very old skipping rope with wooden handles.

Then, he took us upstairs where we found more old toys. We sat in a circle and, one at a time, Steve showed us the toys and explained how to play with them. Some of us were asked to look after the old toys. We then had lots of fun playing! There were skipping ropes, a slate with chalk, cups-and-balls, spinning tops, popping guns and even a Jacob’s ladder.

Finally, we made our own old toy – a cup and ball which we took home to play with. We had a lot of fun on our trip to the museum.
