Developing our outdoor classroom

This half term we are changing and developing our outdoor classroom. At St Mary and St Joseph's we value the outdoors and firmly believe that it provides learning experiences which compliment and extend our indoor activities. We want our outdoors to continuously offer varied and exciting experiences to enhance the curriculum.

To begin we started with the views of our children. We asked...

What do you already like about our outdoors?    Which areas do you like to work in?   What else would you like to see outdoors?   How could we make our outdoors more fun?

The children wanted-

water to play in   colourful flags flying

a place to dig and find insects    and...

 a swimming pool!

To help us with our developments we ran three 'Stay and Play' sessions for parents. Through these we were able to create a super water wall, a worm digging spot, a miniature mini beast hotel, a sensory garden space and large sand area.

Thank you very much to all of the parents and grandparents who supported us. Our spaces have been tranformed and the children are having a huge amount of fun learning in their new spaces. Well done everyone!

To help us with this project we are asking for your help. We need lots of resources which you may have at home. Items which are left over, old or ready for your trash - could be our treasure! Please click on the link below to see if you have anything which we could use. Many thanks for your help.
